Bill Luff Chair

Bill is a professional director, with extensive experience in government and business. He worked for a considerable time at British Petroleum Group (as CEO of BP Shipping - and Head of Strategy, Planning and Control for BP Oil International). Bill has also held executive roles with Network Tasman Limited, Canterbury Development Corporation (as CEO), and with Solid Energy New Zealand Limited.

Bill has also held a number of directorships, including with Silver Fern Farms Limited, the Lyttelton Port Company Limited, Enable Services, Enable Network Limited, Isaac Construction Limited, J Ballantyne and Co Limited and Central Plains Water Limited. He is a Trustee of the Lighthouse Vision Trust, Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Trust and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra Trust.

Bill has a postgraduate degree (Hons) in Political Science from the University of Canterbury. He has also completed various executive courses at the Harvard Business School and Oxford University.


Dan BolgerDirector

Dan is a Deputy Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries. He heads the Ministry’s Office of the Director-General, responsible for a range of functions including organisational strategy, planning, governance, communications, legal, assurance and Crown Forestry.

Dan also has a background with the Ministry’s policy team, where he focused on issues affecting the economic performance of agriculture and forestry.

He holds a Bachelors degree in agricultural science


Greg CampbellDirector

Greg has extensive experience in executive and governance roles, in New Zealand and internationally. He is experienced in the petroleum, infrastructure, local government (CCTO), heavy industry, public transit, manufacturing, energy and environmental sectors.

Greg is currently the Chief Executive of Ravensdown. Previous to this, Greg was Chief Executive of Ngai Tahu Holdings Group, Managing Director (and then CEO Australasia) of Transpacific Industries NZ Ltd.

He has held a wide range of directorships in Australia and New Zealand in listed companies, privately held companies and not-for-profit organisations. He is currently director of EcoCentral Ltd. He is a past director of PGG Wrightsons and Ngai Tahu Fisheries Settlement Ltd.

Greg has a MBA (with distinction) from Massey University. He also studied finance at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas.

Ian ClarkeDirector

Ian has over 30 years’ experience in the information technology, agriculture, gas and television production industries – holding a range of executive and management roles. He has extensive experience in software development and system integration, and headed technology company Fronde as its CEO for eight years.

He brings to OVERSEER Limited an understanding of building and commercialising software products - and building an international business.

He gained a B.Com (Ag) at Lincoln and a MBA from Otago University. Ian has a farming background.

Dr Tom Richardson Director

Tom is Chief Executive of AgResearch, New Zealand’s largest crown research institute. He has held executive roles in New Zealand and Australian science for the past 20 years.

Prior to joining AgResearch, he was a scientist and then Chief Executive at the New Zealand Forestry Research Institute (later Scion). He has frequently served on advisory boards, external review panels and international science and trade delegations.

Tom has held numerous industry, science and education governance roles, which currently include OVERSEER Limited; Farmax Ltd; Grasslanz Technology, Ltd; DEEResearch, Science New Zealand, Riddet Institute; St Paul’s Collegiate Agribusiness Centre of Excellence Advisory Board (chair); and council member of Waiariki Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.

His science background is in genetics. He holds a Bachelors degree in Biology from Bucknell University and a doctorate in Botany from Pennsylvania State University.


Caroline Read Chief Executive

Caroline has been with Overseer for 5 years, firstly as the General Manager and now as Chief Executive of Overseer Limited. 

Raised on a Sheep and Beef farm in the south Wairarapa, Caroline studied geology before shifting to Environmental Policy in the early 2000's. Prior to joining Overseer, Caroline held senior analyst and project management roles at the Ministry for the Environment, including a secondment to the Land and Water Forum (LAWF) secretariat.

Before arriving back in New Zealand in 2005, Caroline worked on water and waste policy in both Australia and the UK, focusing on collaborative and international projects to increase water efficiency in the built environment.

She has a PhD in Earth Sciences from Monash University.

Alastair Taylor Business Development Manager

The development of sustainability focussed businesses has been a theme running through Alastair’s career. It has included the development of a precision farming service at Dalgety in the UK, the expansion of Groupe Roullier’s specialist fertilisers into the UK market and latterly building and leading the Farm Sustainability Services team at Ballance Agri-Nutrients. He holds to the idea of “invent your own language – sing the world into existence” and is looking forward to helping Overseer with its growth and change. Alastair moved to New Zealand in 2008 and has made it his home, gaining citizenship in 2013. Married to Kristin, whose family have been farming in Southland for six generations, they love nothing more than spending the summer camping at Lake Wanaka with the extended family.

Carly Sluys Customer Services Specialist

Carly is our resident Overseer expert, poised at the end of our online helpdesk to provide customer support. Raised on dairy farms in Northland and the West Coast, Carly studied a Master of Science in Geography at University of Canterbury before beginning her career in the agriculture sector. Most recently, she held a role as Environmental Data Analyst at Beef + Lamb New Zealand, where she was resident Overseer expert, completing Overseer and Farmax profiles for sheep and beef farmers for projects in the Waikato to Southland. Antony Williams Product Manager

Antony heads Overseer’s team of software developers and testers who are creating the new Overseer FM. Antony’s career has spanned a broad range of industries including telecommunications, primary industries, banking, government, electricity, payments and manufacturing. More recently he worked on Farm IQ, and joined us in 2016 to review the Overseer tool and define the improvements needed. He is a specialist and coach in agile development.
